  • Roshan Bliss I don't say this to be mean to you, but to be good to the people of Ferguson: you should not go. The status from my friend Negesti Kazuko Cantave below sums up the reasons why -
    "If I see one more white person on my FB feed who says they are going to     Ferguson my head might start spinning a flames may come out of my mouth.
    If you are white and thinking about going to Ferguson ask yourself these questions
    1) do you think you have well enough developed critical race theory to parachute into a community you probably have no intention of staying in? ( if so check in with 4 POC friends and see how they feel)
    2) Do you have a specific skill set that they have said they need there on the ground? (if so do you know any POC's that can go in your stead?) If not train some!
    3) why are you going to a community you have no intention of staying in. do you Know your presence alone will like increase the likelihood of that community being gentrified?
    4) you probably shouldn't go ( why are you going other than you just can?)"

    From what I know of you Daniel Damascus Kimery, if you honestly asked yourself these questions, you would realize that you are just the kind of white person Ferguson doesn't need, and that your trip will be more about you than the people of Ferguson. And for that reason, there is no way in hell I'm giving you money to support this ill-conceived trip, especially not after the way you conducted yourself into my community during Occupy Denver while on a similar parachuting endeavor. I know a lot of people here who would agree with me.
    I doubt what I'm saying will do anything more than piss you off and would be shocked as shit if you were actually honest enough with yourself and humble enough to decide not to go based on these reflections. But like I said, I'm being honest for the sake of the people already dealing with so much in Ferguson.
    I'm not sorry if you're upset by this. And I think that instead, you should be donating the money you're trying to raise from other people to people from the people in Ferguson who are doing real organizing rather than taking others' money to go shout at cops in a town you know nothing about and have no commitment to. The real revolutionary thing for you to do would be to stay the fuck home and work on improving yourself and the community you actually live in.

    I don't know your experience as an occupier, as I must have left before you arrived, but even with my limited knowledge I know that you are exactly the kind of person who should stay away from Ferguson.

    I mean, one of the things that you need money for is a Guy Fawkes mask. Seriously? The people in Ferguson show their faces because they actually believe in what they are saying, and they don't have to hide because their words are the truth. They're standing up to authority figures as themselves, and they know that their actions may have consequences, not just in their individual lives, but in their community. You showing up, not from the community, and not even strong enough to really stand with them without hiding behind a mask, are going to hinder more than you help.
